The next one: Dystopia Via ADs

So it was brought to my attention in a TED talk by Zaynep Tufecki, that the government is using Ads to learn and take data from us so that they can use it against us. Now that isn't what she actually said but she did say that Ads really can learn from us and strangely enough it's something so obvious you would never even think to notice it. When you search something or talk about something on your phone then look in your web browser just for fun, you'll probably see whatever you were talking about formatted in an Ad.

Confused? I was too but then it hit me, it's just a way to make AI integrate into society without people thinking about terminator too much. And I get it for sure but whats gonna happen when people find out about these Ads invading our privacy? As Americans privacy is highly important to us just for a standard so the government using Ads to integrate AI into our daily lives is a pretty high gamble.

The worst part about these learning Ads is that they take advantage of the people, they can use whatever data they've got to get you to buy something just for building an AI? I'm not really okay with it but I usually don't shop online anyway but if you're reading this then, be careful what you talk about around Alexa and in your group chats because the government is always watching.

  1. Is it really the government that is controlling these ads and collecting the information from the ads? And how does that information relate to AI? While it is certainly learning about us, how does that lead to the fear of terminator-style issues? I'd like to hear more about this, as well as about Americans views of privacy.

  2. I don't know if the government is controlling the ads, but the companies certainly are and it drives me nuts! I no sooner say the name of something and it pops up as an ad in my Facebook feed. I think there are going to be big changes with this over the next 20 years, but selling ads is how all the social media sites are able to be free.

  4. Is it really the government that is controlling these ads or is it the corporation of whom is displaying the ad and then selling off their information to other websites social platforms?
